Nick’s drums
Sunday morning was all about revamping the studio.
I’ve just finished producing the debut album by Killerfix and felt it was time for a studio revamp. I’ve not done much writing for some time and always like to work in a clean space (OCD?) and spent the morning wading through wires and instruments in the hope of creating the perfect creative environment (until next reshuffle!).
I heard a distant hello from Justin Sandercoe (who also has a studio at the same West London complex). Suddenly remembering that today was his album launch party and birthday, I went out into the corridor for a quick chat hoping that the bookcase I was moving wasn’t going to fall over. He told me that one of the support acts for the night had pulled out due to illness and asked if I fancied playing an acoustic spot before he got up with the band. I agreed, went back to tidying up the studio and started to form the set list for the evening.
I’ve not sung or played much guitar over the last few weeks as I had the flu and needed to take some time out after finishing up the Killerfix album. Playing a gig with no prep time was both exciting and also a bit nerve wracking. The Dirty Hands are also mid-revamp and picking the right songs to play also was a factor.
After a phone call to Nick Oliver (to see if he fancied a night out) and a bite to eat, I got on the road and ventured over to Bush Hall to play the gig. I arrived just at the end of the first band (who sounded great), went into the dressing room, said hello to Justin and Dario Cortese and plugged in my trusty yet neglected Guild acoustic guitar. 10 mins later and I was up on the stage playing to a friendly crowd.

Nick took this rather blurry photo as he’s too cool to be down at the front taking photos :)
Set list was: Acrobat, Crime Of The Century, Shelf Life, Diggin A Hole & Wake Up. You can listen to them at http://www.youareanacrobat.com
Justin & the band were great - played tunes from his new album. I enjoyed seeing Peter Cunnah join them for a couple of tunes at the end of the set - his Beatles t-shirt is awesome.
Met some rather cool people last night after the gig who enjoyed my set and also got to see some friends I’ve not seen in a while. A very fun night.
@2 years agoIt’s been a pretty good week here. I lost a couple of days in the middle due to a weird bug however I managed to get lots of music done.
Started the mix on Leaving Atlantis’ debut EP. Sounds very big, Air meets Zero 7.
Been playing loads of guitar. My Strat Deluxe is rarely out of sight at the moment. Dropped D has been the tuning of choice - great for big riffs. Also been making some Adrian Belew type whammy noises. I’m feeling very inspired at the moment.
Dirty Hands rehearsal tomorrow night. Going to make some interesting sounds.
